Accenture: Global Health
The COVID-19 pandemic is driving unprecedented adoption of virtual health and care. Countries around the world have seen huge benefits through increased access to remote healthcare, including financial savings, increased productivity, and even reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. However, the breakneck pace in which remote care is expanding could actually end up alienating millions of people from the health system. Over the past year, Accenture has worked with the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development to conduct a large-scale landscape review exploring how the expanded use of virtual health impacts different populations. Across dozens of countries, we found ways in which factors like age, gender, income, living location, race and disability status are impacting people’s potential to reap the benefits of virtual health—or to be left behind. This session will explore the findings of our recently published report, including inspiring examples of how countries are placing equity at the heart of virtual health and care policy.
